Lakeside Chautauqua hosts 29th Chautauqua Network Annual Meeting

The Chautauqua Network Annual Meeting will commence in Lakeside, Ohio on Saturday, July 21, 2012 and conclude on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Throughout the event, attendees will experience Lakeside Chautauqua as it delivers a rich cultural experience featuring a performance by the legendary band, America, and the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show and the Plein Air Art Festival on the Lake Erie waterfront. Nationally recognized Quaker pastor and author, Dr. Phillip Gulley, will serve as Lakeside’s Chaplain-of-the-Week and Steve Hartman, Emmy Award-winning “CBS News” correspondent, will share his personal experiences about “The Chautauqua on Lake Erie.”

The Chautauqua Network is an active group that meets every summer to discuss the common problems, and the unique situations, that each of the chautauquas are experiencing.

In the past, we have been mostly reactionary and have shared best practices. However, in the last 2 years, thanks to the initiative of Kevin Sibbing from Lakeside, the Chautauqua Network has launched a website, ChautauquaTrail.com. This website brings together all of the member chautauquas for the purpose of encouraging people to plan their own trip, their own safari of discovery, or virtual visit, to each of us. It is an opportunity to discover other chautauquas. How are “we” all the same? How are “we” different? However, for the vast majority of Americans, it is an opportunity to discover that chautauquas are all over the United States and Canada and, maybe, even in their backyard. I know for a fact there are many people in Harrisburg, Pa., Portland, Maine, Sewanee, Tenn., Barnegat, NJ, or Dunkirk, NY, who don’t know that they are within a 30-minute drive to a “uniquely American invention” (Theodore Roosevelt) known as a chautauqua.

Come join us for a visit, participate in a summer meeting, or tour us from your computer. No matter what you decide, “Welcome to a fascinating, captivating, and stimulating world of personal development!”
