One of the top-rated speakers of last season, Robert Kagan returns to the lecture platform. Kagan is a senior associate and director of the U.S. Leadership Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cooperation among nations and promoting active international engagement by the U. S. He writes extensively on domestic politics and U.S. strategy and diplomacy. His latest bestselling book, Of Paradise and Power: America and Europe in the New World Order, has redefined how European-American relations are understood. Kagan writes a monthly column on world affairs for The Washington Post, and is a contributing editor at both the Weekly Standard and the New Republic. He served in the State Department from 1984-1988 as a member of the Policy Planning Staff, as principal speechwriter for Secretary of State George P. Shultz, and as Deputy for Policy in the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs.
