Author, journalist and screenwriter Mark Bowden will present his international bestseller Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War for the Chautauqua Literary & Scientific Circle on Thursday, Aug. 6, during Chautauqua Institution’s week exploring the world of cinema. Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War spent more than a year on the New York Times bestseller list and was a finalist for the National Book Award. Bowden also worked on the screenplay for “Black Hawk Down,” a 2001 film adaptation of the book, directed by Ridley Scott.
Bowden is the author of Killing Pablo: the Hunt for the World’s Greatest Outlaw. Killing Pablo, which explores the hunt for Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, is currently being adapted for film, with Bowden again writing the screenplay.
Bowden contributes regularly to major American magazines and is an adjunct professor at Loyola College of Maryland, where he teaches creative writing and journalism. He graduated from Loyola College of Maryland in 1973 with a B.A. in English literature.
