Inaugural World Leaders Forum Scheduled

Chautauqua Institution is pleased to partner with World Leaders Travel for two extraordinary travel events this year that offer Chautauquans an opportunity to explore the world with world-renowned scholars, journalists, political leaders and academics.

The inaugural “World Leaders Forum: Israel & the Palestinian Authority,” scheduled for May 1-13, 2010, features Middle East policy expert Aaron David Miller, who spoke at Chautauqua during Week Six of the 2009 Season, and who will be a morning lecturer during Week Three this summer. Describing the event, Miller says, “Only through the direct experience of meeting Israelis and Palestinians, exploring the real estate they both claim, understanding the holy sites they are contesting, and listening to experts and opinion makers from both sides can you even begin to come to grips with the realities that shape their lives, their hopes, and their fears.”

There’s still time to join this special travel experience that includes access to other experts and scholars, as well as insight from leaders and key players on both sides of the Arab-Israeli peace process. Miller will be joined by journalist Sam Donaldson, Foreign Affairs editor James Hoge and Walter Russell Mead from Yale and the Council on Foreign Relations. The “World Leaders Symposium: Global Challenges in a Post-Perestroika World,” scheduled for Aug. 30-Sept. 15, 2010, takes travelers on a journey from Moscow to Istanbul and features former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry, and a team of experts, including frequent Chautauqua speaker Geoffrey Kemp. Explore the unique history and cultural influences of Russia and the Black Sea region during a ten-night cruise aboard the all-suite Silver Wind, as well as three nights at Moscow’s Ritz-Carlton and two nights at Istanbul’s elegant Ciragan Palace Hotel. Additional information, including trip itinerary and speaker bios, are available online. Click here to view a brochure.
