Kenneth Miller
August 18, 2008

Kenneth Miller is a professor of biology at Brown University and the author of Finding Darwin's God: A Scientist's Search for Common Ground Between God and Evolution, published in 1999 and re-issued with a "P.S" in 2007. His newest book, Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul, will be published next June. A nationally recognized expert on evolution, Dr. Miller testified in the controversial 2005 trial, Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, involving the teaching of intelligent design in public schools in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Miller's research work on cell membrane structure and function has produced more than 50 scientific papers and reviews in leading journals, including CELL, Nature, and Scientific American. He is also the coauthor, with Joseph S. Levine, of four different high school and college biology textbooks which are used by millions of students nationwide. He has received 5 major teaching awards. In 2007 he was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and received the Exploratorium's Outstanding Educator Award.

A popular guest on national news programs, his appearance on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" in 2006 earned him newfound popularity. "… Nothing I've ever done in my whole scientific career has gained me as much credibility among my students as appearing on 'The Colbert Report," he said.
