FINAL PHOTOS OF
THE COMPLETED PLAYSCAPE
The highly unusual climbing structure
is a series of interconnected cable nets that present both physical
challenges and opportunities to observe and play in a natural
space. Unlike most playgrounds, this "playscape" is
not located in an open field but rather has been tucked into
the edge of the wooded area adjacent to the new tennis center.
The design and location intentionally invite users to explore
and play in a natural environment. The dark green supports and
black cable blend into the landscape and views into the woods
are not obstructed. Plans call for graphics to be added at various
points in the play area depicting common birds, animals and insects
one might encounter while at the site.
The equipment was manufactured
by Berliner Seilfabrik, a German-based firm, and distributed
by is Goric, Inc. of Ashland, Mass. The installation was done
in two days by members of Chautauqua's Building and Grounds Department
working with a field representative from Goric.
The Turner recreation campus
now includes the fitness center,
indoor pool, gymnasium, lockers rooms, the recently dedicated
tennis center and this new "playscape".
