Grammy Award winning artist, Boz Scaggs, and his band will hit the road in 2008, performing the best-known songs of his career. Brass Band of the Western Reserve

This Akron, Ohio based ensemble will open the 2008 season and spirit us into the Chautauqua experience. The band came into existence in the fall of 1997 following a couple of reading sessions held during the summer of that year. The impetus for the formation of the group was the knowledge that the widely experienced brass band conductor, Dr. Keith Wilkinson, was now residing in the area. From its very beginning, the band has striven for the highest possible standards of music making.

The New Christy Minstrels

The New Christy Minstrels is a world-famous, much-loved musical folk group founded in 1961 by Randy Sparks. Under his direction, they are back and still singing, playing and bringing their unique brand of onstage excitement to concert halls and coffeehouses everywhere. They have re-recorded all of their old hits: Green Green, Denver, Mighty Mississippi, This Land is Your Land, and many others in a collection titled "The New Christy Minstrels Greatest Hits Revisited." Five of the seven performers are the very same Grammy award winning members of the New Christy Minstrels, under the direction of Randy Sparks, that were on The Andy Williams Show in 1962. the New Arts Trio

Since its inception in 1974, the trio has performed in major cities throughout the United States and Canada. The New Arts Trio has been in residence at Chautauqua since 1978 and will celebrate its 30th Chautauqua Anniversary this season. 100th Anniversary of the
Great Automobile Race of 1908
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - 8:15 p.m.

This year will mark the Centennial celebration of the 1908 New York to Paris Automobile Race, in which the Thomas Flyer (built in Buffalo, NY) and driven by George Schuster of Springville, NY, won the International competition for the United States. This epic event, in the very early days of the automobile still holds world records 100 years later. To commemorate this event, the race from New York to Paris will be rerun from June 5 to August 3, 2008. Jeff Mahl, great grandson of George Schuster, will take on the character of his great grandfather and retell the story of the 1908 race using incredible photos from the family archives with live, period music performed by Chautauqua's own "Thursday Morning Brass."
