Sundays are free at Chautauqua — free admission to the grounds and a free afternoon show in the Amphitheater. Below is the complete schedule of 2:30 p.m. Sunday entertainment.

U.S. Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus
Sunday, June 24, 2:30pm

Back by popular demand, this award-winning, 90-member band currently under the direction of Michael Shaw was formed in 1929 by WWI veterans. They perform over 30 concerts each year from Carnegie Hall to Chicago. A treat for the entire family and a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon at Chautauqua.

American Legion Band of the Tonawandas, Post 264
Sunday, July 1, 2:30pm

The award-winning American Legion Band of the Tonawandas' Post 264 was formed in 1929 by World War 1 veterans and Post 264 members. Today the Band is an independent 501 (c) (3) Not-For-Profit CorporatiDn. The Band (currently 90 members at full strength) is currently directed by Mr. Michael Shaw, director of music at Frontier High School. Formal concerts are performed between the months of September and June in area schools and theaters. The Band has a long history of performances on the stages of Artpark, Chautauqua Institution, the Riviera and Palace Theatres. During the remaining months of the year, the Band performs a number of concerts and parades throughout Western New York.

The dynamic performances of the Band at the 1978 New York State School Music Association Convention, the 1984 New York State Band Directors Association at the Eastman School of Music, the 1990 National Association Of Concert Bands and the 2004 New York Wind Band Festival earned the Band the respect of their peers as each performance climaxed in energetic standing ovations.

The Band has and always will stand ready to aid in any worthwhile community function and to uphold the great tradition of the American Legion.

Brass Band of the Western Reserve
Sunday, July 8, 2:30pm

This Akron, Ohio based ensemble returns to Chautauqua. The band came into existence in the fall of 1997, and since 2000, has been a proud ambassador for the University of Akron, bearing the title Ensemble-In-Residence. Under the direction of Dr. Keith Wilkinson, the band has been recognized in the Championship Section of the North American Brass Band Championships since 2000.

Chautauqua School of Dance: Student Gala
Sunday, July 15, 2:30pm

Chautauqua is recognized as having one of the finest summer dance programs in the U.S. Young dancers from around the country audition to be part of this excellent program. This student gala gives Chautauqua an opportunity to see, first hand, the talent, dedication and grace of these incredible young people.

New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Choral Studies
Sunday, July 22, 2:30pm

90 high school students from across New York State gather at SUNY Fredonia each summer to study and sing at the New York State Summer School of the Arts. They are chosen by state-wide auditions to participate. We are pleased to offer them a chance to share their music and talents with Chautauqua – an inspiration for young and old.

East Winds Symphonic Band
Sunday, July 29, 2:30pm

Celebrating 30 years of sharing music with the community, the East Winds Symphonic Band makes its debut at the Chautauqua Institution this season. Honored for its high standards of excellence by the John Philip Sousa Foundation with the Sudler Silver Scroll Award, the Pittsburgh-based band is comprised of 75 serious amateur musicians from all walks of life. Under the direction of Susan Sands, EWSB plays a wide variety of music, including traditional wind band repertoire, marches and classical transcriptions, plus favorites from Dixieland, Broadway, Hollywood and the Big-Band Era. Join them for a lively, toe-tapping concert that is fun for all ages!

Infinity Performing Arts Presents

Infinity Visual and Performing Arts, Inc. is a multifaceted, innovative music and arts education program located in Jamestown, NY. It is dedicated to the cultivation and nurturing of creative growth by providing opportunities through access to the arts. More than a place, more than a program, Infinity is an experience for the body, mind, and soul; a chance for youth to become immersed in music, the arts and learning. They will present an afternoon of instrumental and vocal music highlighting the many talented participants of this program.

Parade Street Dixieland Jazz Band
Sunday, August 26, 2:30pm

Under the direction of founder Harry Aldrich, Parade Street Dixieland Jazz Band was nominated in 2009 and 2010 as one of the three best jazz bands in Erie, Pennsylvania by the RockErie Music Awards contest sponsored by the Erie Times News. Seven musicians bring their own passion and vibe to the great Dixieland tunes from New Orleans of the early 1900s to the 1930s. Come join the band as we send off the 2012 season in true New Orleans style.
