Versatile actor Michael York comes to the Chautauqua stage for the second time with an impressive body of work on screen, stage, television, and with audio recordings that span a 40-year career. A native of England, York joined the National Youth Theatre Company and studied English at Oxford University. As a professional actor, he joined Laurence Olivier's National Theatre Company and made his film debut in "The Taming of the Shrew." He has more than 60 screen credits to his name, including memorable roles in "Cabaret" opposite Liza Minnelli, and as the title character in the sci-fi classic "Logan's Run." He starred as Basil Exposition in all three "Austin Powers" movies. Other films include "The Island of Doctor Moreau," "Murder on the Orient Express," and the two "Omega Code" films. His latest film is "Moscow Heat."

His television work includes "The Forsyth Saga", "Great Expectations," "The Heat of the Day," "The Lot," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Icon." He was recently a guest on "The Simpsons" and the 100th episode of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent." Among his Broadway credits are "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me," "Bent," the musical of "The Little Prince," "The Crucible," and the world premiere of Tennessee Williams' "Outcry."

York's familiar voice is in constant demand, with over 70 audio book credits as varied as The Book of Psalms, Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat, his own children's book, The Magic Paw Paw, and the Grammy-nominated Treasure Island. York has lectured internationally on the history and art of acting, and has been awarded Britain's OBE, France's Arts et Lettres, and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His autobiography, Accidentally on Purpose, was followed by A Shakespearean Actor Prepares and Dispatches from Armageddon. His most recent book is Are My Blinkers Showing? He currently serves as Chairman of the California Youth Theatre.
